Hello, Sjajsdf,
There isn't much to cover in this energy transformation. A log consists of organic molecules built from the photosynthesis in leaves from carbon dioxide from the air, along with water and minerals from the soil. Carbon-hydrogen and carbon-oxygen bonds are made from the sun's energy, which produce organic polymers required by the plant. The sun's energy is stored in the bonds of these polymers, such as cellulose. In the presence of sufficient heat and oxygen, these bonds can fall apart, releasing the energy that originally came from sunlight. The energy is emitted as light, especially infrared (the heat). The heat flows up and away, and the light goes in all directions. Most of the energy is released as heat and that energy is transferred to nearby objects and gasses, particularly CO2, O2 and N2. Other objects that absorb the heat include the fire ring or fireplace, hot dogs marshmallows, and sometimes fingers.
