asked 12/12/20How long is the baseball thrown in the air
A baseball is thrown at an angle of 24◦ relative to the ground at a speed of 25.1 m/s. The ball is caught 47.7257 m from the thrower. The acceleration due to gravity is 9.81 m/s 2 . How long is it in the air? Answer in units of s.
1 Expert Answer
Let T= amount of time in air ... vxo=25.1cos(24)=22.9 m/s .... distance/velocity = T = 47.7/22.9 = 2.08 sec
Let vyo=25.1sin(24)= 10.2 m/s ... Max height = vyo^2/2g= 10.2^2/2/9.81= 5.31 meters
