Not sure how to begin to solve this one.

"A car and a truck leave Allen park at the same time, heading in opposite directions. When they are 350 miles apart, the car has gone 70 miles farther than the truck. How far has the car traveled?"

Answer 1

Let x = distance traveled by the truck

   x + 70 = distance traveled by the car

 

Then, x + (x + 70) = 350

 

2x + 70 = 350

 

2x = 280

 

x = 140 miles

 

The truck traveled 140 miles and the car traveled 210 miles.
