asked 11/23/20What is the mass of CO2 and CO in grams?
1 Expert Answer
The Molar Mass can be determined from periodic table of elements.
Looking at the chemical formula for CO2, there's one carbon atom while there are two oxygen atom. The atomic mass on the periodic table is also molar mass in grams.
According to the periodic table, the molar mass of carbon is about 12.011 g/mol while for oxygen, it's 15.994 g/mol. Because there are two oxygen atoms in CO2, multiply 15.994 by two, then add to 12.011 which will get you the molar mass of approximately 44 grams.
For CO, it's the same process, but since there's only one oxygen atom this time, it's simple 12.011 plus 15.994 which is approximately 28 grams.
