asked 11/16/20How many unhybridized 2 orbitals remain on an atom that has hybrid orbitals?
In an hybridized atom, we saw that there was one unhybridized 2 orbital. How many unhybridized 2 orbitals remain on an atom that has hybrid orbitals?

I think you are talking about 2p orbitals.
For example, if you take a carbon atom, it has one 2s orbital and 3 2p orbitals; 2px, 2py and 2pz before hybridization.
if you combine one 2s orbital + one 2p orbital you will have two sp hybrid orbitals(arranged in linear 180) and, two unhybridized 2p orbitals left.
if you combine one 2s orbital + two 2p orbitals(2px + 2py ) you will have three sp2 hybrid orbitals(arranged in trigonal planar 120) and, one unhybridized 2p orbitals left.
if you combine one 2s orbital + all 2px, 2py and 2pz three of them, you will have four sp3 hybrid orbitals(arranged in tetrahedral - 109.5) and, no unhybridized 2p orbitals left.
