If you seek success...I am here to help
Lines that are PERPENDICULAR to each other have slopes where the products of the slopes equals -1.
In other words, one slope is the NEGATIVE RECIPROCAL of the other slope.
First rewrite the equation of the line given to the form; y = mx + b, so...
x = 4y + 12;
4y = x - 12;
y = (x - 12)/4
y = (1/4)x - 3
The slope is 1/4...so the slope of a line PERPENDICULAR will be the NEGATIVE RECIPROCAL = -4
Because 1/4 x (-4) = -1
The equation of a line PERPENDICULAR to x = 4y +12 will be equations that have -4 as the value of m.
Hope this helps
