Can someone help me with what is probably a very simple word problem?

Question

On Monday, two hundred twenty students went on a trip to the zoo. All five buses were filled and five students had to travel in cars. How many students were in each bus? 

Answer 1

Number of students who rode the buses = 220 minus the 5 who rode in cars:

 

220 - 5 = 215 students

 

215 students rode in 5 buses:

 

215 students / 5 buses = 43 students per bus

 

 

Answer 2

Of the 220 students, 5 could not fit on the buses.  This leaves 215 that were on the buses.  Assuming that there were the same amount of students on each bus, you would divide 215 by 5.

 

215/5=43

 

ANSWER: 43 students

 

Check:

Add up the number of students per bus.

43+43+43+43+43=215

 

Add the extra students riding in the cars.

215+5=220.
