you and your friend went shopping. you bought 1 hat and 3 pairs of gloves for $18. your friend bought 3 hats and 2 pairs of gloves for $26. how much did it cost for one hat and one pair of gloves? (answers should reflect the real world scenario by including appropriate units.)

3H + 2G = 26

H=price of one hat, G = price of one pair of gloves

multiply 1st equation by 3 and subtract the 2nd equation to get

3H+9G = 54

3H+2G = 26

7G = 28

G = 28/7 = $4 for a pair of gloves

H= 18-3G = 18-12 = $6 for a hat

one of each = 4+6 = $10
