The easiest thing that you can do right now is to go to https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload and upload the image. It will do a basic check for you. If you want to dive deeper than I can show and explain in a booked appointment.
Are attachments sent through Wyzant scanned for viruses?
I was chatting with a prospective student and they sent me their assignment. The images, however, were in Russian and looked like stock photos from Google. The student is supposedly in the States. I never downloaded the images, but I did view them in my Gmail image viewer. I am very concerned now.
