Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
18x3 = 54 miles 35 degrees east of north
then 15x2 = 30 miles at 66 degrees east of south
difference in the angles is 90-35 +90-66 = 55 +24 = 79 degrees
the angle between 54 and 30 is 180-79= 101
construct a right triangle SAS, Side Angle Side, 54 miles, 101 degrees 30 miles
to find the 3rd side of the triangle, opposite 101 degrees, use the Law of Cosines
c^2 = a^2 + b^2 -2abCosC
c^2 = 54^2 + 30^2 - 2(54(30)Cos101
= 2916+ 900 - 3240(-Cos79)
= 3916 + 618.22
= 4534.22
c = square root of 4534.22
c= about 67.34 miles from its origiinal position
It definitely helps to draw a diagram. It's not an easy problem
It should have been listed under the category "Trigonometry"
