I have a passion for teaching and tutoring.
Logan has X quarters and (60-x) dimes
1/2X = 1/3 (60-x)
X/2= 60-X/3
3X=120-2X
5X=120
x=24 quarters
60-24=36 dimes
24x25=600 cents=$6
36x 10=360 cents=$3.60
$9.60

Total money saved will be
60 * 0.25 + x * 0.10
According to question 1/2 of his quarters is the same as 1/3 of his dimes, which means
30 * 0.25 (as 30 is half of 60) = 1/3 of x * 0.10
30 * 0.25 = 1/3 of x * 0.10
7.50 = 1/3 of x * 0.10
7.50 * 3/ 0.10 = x
225 = x
So value of dime = 225 * 0.10 = $ 2.25
Value of quarters = 60 * 0.25 = $15.00
Total money saved = $15.00 + $ 2.25 = $17.25

I am sorry. Just would like to clarify, so the student would not confused. 60 coins were altogether, quarters and dimes. At the end, you found 225 coins in dimes value. I think, 24 coins were quarters, and 36 coins were dimes.07/20/20
