Based on the chemical equation 2 NO + O2 → 2 NO2, we know that the moles of O2 is half the amount of NO, and the moles of NO2 is equal the moles of NO (You can understand the equation like: 2 mol of NO reacts with 1 mol of O2 gas to form 2 moles of NO2).
Therefore, the moles of O2 is half the given amount of NO: 3.88/2 = 1.94 mol
Moles of NO2 is the same as the moles of NO= 3.88 mol.
