asked 05/13/20Which of the three approaches would be expected to produce the largest error. Explain why.
The procedures are:
- Single Slit Diffraction
- Double Slit Diffraction
- Diffraction Grating
This is for when taking measurements of deltaX

I would expect the single slit diffraction to cause the greatest error. The maxima are a lot fainter for single slit so the spacing measurement would be far more prone to error. For a diffraction grating, it is easy to take multiple maxima and divide by the number of lines to find a very accurate spacing.

Hi Affaf A., I guess that might depend on what you are considering for your term "deltaX". There is one small physical dimension in a single slit setup, two in a double slit setup, and one in a diffraction grating setup. Let alone measurements of the other experimental dimensions (distances on the pattern, distance to the visualization screen, wavelength of light where applicable, and so on). A poorly phrased question is perhaps the optimal way to produce the largest errors! -- Cheers, -- Mr. d.05/18/20
