I don't know if you're studying algebra yet, so here's a way to solve it without algebra.
You have THREE quarters of what you need. So a third of what you have would be ONE quarter of what you need.
What is 1/3 of what you have? That's 1/3 of 2/3, which is 1/3 times 2/3, which is 2/9.
So 2/9 is one quarter of what you need. That means that 4 times 2/9 would the the whole of what you need, since there are 4 quarters in a whole. So 4 times 2/9 is 8/9. So the answer is that you need 8/9 cup.
