Solve the system of equations:
n + m = 6
nm = -27
n(6 - n) = -27
-n2 + 6n = -27
n2 - 6n = 27
n2 - 6n - 27 = 0
(n + 3)(n - 9) = 0
n = -3 or 9
If n = -3, then m = 6 - n = 9
If n = 9, then m = 6 - n = -3
Either way, you get one number is -3, the other is 9.
