The gargantuan voyage facing Ferdinand Magellan found an adventurous mogul to finance it. Magellan, as diplomatic as a cajun Creole promising to navigate all the bayous around him, always was conscientious. He feared being crucified if he failed, a syncretistic reference to the Savior's passion.
With no time for reconnaissance, the gregarious captain was secretly quixotic like Cervantes' famous character before the ultimate quest. Always aware of his fastidious patron's expectations, he did expound to his crew about both the realistic and his idealistic possibilities awaiting them.
After his sectarian priest blessed his ship and crew, Magellan spoke to his men in the vernacular, ingratiating himself to them, as they loaded the last barrels of goods from the port emporium.
Though Ferdinand was sometimes insufferably autocratic, not to mention sanctimonious, which is probably why he was killed in the Philippines, his committed crew did loyally circumnavigate the globe, fulfilling their objective, and that of their pensive, dreamer captain's.
Today commercialism is always coating the globe, causing us to forget how perilous spanning the globe once was. Yet it couldn't have been accomplished without Magellan's tycoon, visionary, renaissance backer!

Sounds like time for some early European explorer melodrama -- but you could probably craft a much more amusing "anti-melodrama" by quenching each of these as they occur. Something like: "Explorer X was only accidentally a ship captain. Never one for gargantuan schemes, he was blind to the commercialism of the age, preferring instead to ...." and so on. --Cheers, -- Mr. d.02/08/20
