Hi Lindsey H.,
What are we given:
293,337 L of jet fuel
0.768 g = 1 cm3, density of jet fuel
And were asked for the kg of the jet fuel so we will be going from L to kg using the density.
We'll also need:
1 L = 1000 cm3
1000 g = 1 kg
? kg = 293,337 L*(1000 cm3 / 1 L)*(0.768 g / 1 cm3)*(1 kg / 1000 g) = 225,283 kg.
After seeing that the 1000's in the problem cancel, we could have just as easily converted the density from 0.768 g/cm3 to 0.768 kg/L, [293,337 L*(0.768 kg/L) = 225,283 kg].
I hope this helps, Joe.
