I like to think of Independent and Dependent variables in this way:
Independent variables are something I can change in the experiment.
Dependent variables are what is being measured.
So try it with this experiment...
I want to see if the color of a light has any effect on moths being attracted to that light. The color of the light I use is white, red and blue. The independent variable in this case would be light. Let's say I measure how attracted a moth is to the light by how close they get to the light, and I measure that in millimeters. Distance would be my dependent variable then.
Try that logic with your experiment above and I think it will help :)
