Hi Abby,
Let's start by determining what pH is by definition.
pH = -log(H3O+)
so in this example:
pH = 8.56 = -log(H3O+)
since it is log base 10 the equation can be arrange as so:
10-8.56 = (H3O+)
(H3O+) = 2.75 x10^-9 M
If you get a question like this in the future it will be useful to remember the equation 10-pH = (H3O+)
