help with a word problem

Question

Your friend had three more songs on her mp3 player than you. Together you have 99 songs. How many songs do each of you have?

Hi Jill, U + U + 3 = 99 //U is how much mp3 you have U+3 is how much your friend has. Can you take it form here..... add the two Us together and subtract 3 from both sides. Good luck Jill.

X + X + 3 = 99        2X +3 = 99           2X = 96       2X/2 = 96/2          X = 48 you
