How fast did she drive in rush hour?

One her way to a holiday weekend, Nancy drove 1.5 miles in rush hour traffic. When traffic eased up, she was able to increase the speed by 40 and drove about 4.5 hours. The entire trip was 324 miles.

1.5x+4.5x+40=324

Is this the right set up?

Or at least am I in the right direction?

Please help.

I am not sure if I got it but let me try to solve it now and if you would, please correct me where I went wrong. I will even explain what I did! 1.5x+4.5(x+40)=324 Multiply the two things in the parenthesis by what is directly in front of it. 1.5x+4.5x+180=324 Subtract 180 from both sides of the equals sign and group together the like terms. 6x=144 Divide to get X by its self. x=24

Perfect! Her slow speed was 24 mph, and her fast speed was 64 mph
