Voodoo (or Voudou) rituals almost always have music of some kind. Most voodoo rituals incorporate some type of rhythmic chanting or singing, or even talking to a certain rhythm. Voodoo rituals are prayers, and music is just one element of the entire ritual. Voodoo rituals in New Orleans and some areas of Haiti will often include singing, dancing, drumming, and chanting.
It is believed that some rhythmic ideas can cause different "affects" to take place during the voodoo rituals. For example, a certain drum pattern or beat may inspire spiritual cleansing, healing, or luck.
