This is a conversion problem, solved by dimensional analysis. The conversion factor includes the molar mass which is determined from masses on the periodic table. In this case 1 mol CO2 = 44.011 g CO2. So which goes on the top and which on the bottom of the conversion factor? The unit you want your answer in goes on top, and the unit you want to cancel (get rid of) goes on the bottom.
10.00 g CO2 x 1 mol CO2/44.011 g CO2 = 0.2272 mol CO2
