Red buttons (R)
White buttons (W)
T = B + R + W
B = (1/4)T
R = (1/8)T
W = 948 + R
Substitute R into the equation for W:
W = 948 + [(1/8)T]
Substitute B, R, and W into the equation for T:
T = [(1/4)T] + [(1/8)T] + [948 + (1/8)T]
Group common terms:
T = (1/4)T + (1/8)T + (1/8)T + 948
Convert to common denominators:
T = (2/8)T + (1/8)T + (1/8)T + 948
Add common terms:
T = (4/8)T + 948
Simplify:
T = (1/2)T + 948
Subtract (1/2)T from both sides:
T - (1/2)T = (1/2)T - (1/2)T + 948
(1/2)T = 948
Multiply both sides by 2 to cancel the 1/2:
(1/2)T * 2 = 948 * 2
T = 1,896
