There are many factors involved here. It really depends, but I would say that you might gain weight.
If you are only eating 400 to 900 calories per day for an extended period of time (a month) and you eat about double the calories on one day, you most likely will not gain weight. If you have a higher calorie day more frequently, then you probably will gain some weight.
But there are other things to consider as well: 1. What kind of food are you getting your calories from? 2. Since the average American diet is based off of 2,000 calories per day, why the need to restrict? 3. Are you also exercising to burn calories?
If you are eating 1,000 calories from vegetables and fruit you will have a harder time gaining weight than if you eat 1,000 calories from junk food, bread, sugar etc. The amount of calories doesn't even matter that much. It's how your body utilizes what you give it. If you also exercise with your diet your body will be able to utilize the food more effectively and keep you from gaining weight.
