I see you are having struggles in understanding proofs better. First my suggestion would be to understand different types of questions and when is what type of proof required to use. In this case the proof by induction is as an usual proof where each step we have to verify and prove. Induction is usually used in proving a certain property true for every natural number. There is the proof with weak and strong induction. Each of them consists of pre-defined steps that you have to follow. The steps include the basis step where you are checking if it is true for the basis step n=1 or for other basic number on the defined interval, the inductive step and the conclusion.
