What can I do to make my college essays stand out?

There are several strategies and key notes you can use to make your college essay rise above the rest. I have insight from experience, along with shared information from fellow classmates who were accepted into top-tier colleges.

College essay advising is one of my favorite areas of support for high school students. After 3 years of helping students with applications and essays, I can say with confidence that my writing and editing help are almost 100% successful in creating a unique student voice. We start with brainstorming, looking for a good example or story that shows the student in a positive light. Usually we need at least two essay starts until we find the right one. The winner is the idea that brings a light to your eyes, something that really makes the reader feel they have gotten to know a little bit about who you are and what makes you unique.
