What is the slope of a line that passes through point (-4,0) and has the same amount of 36 units of area on each half of the line?

So there is a picture but I can place it in here so I hope this works


There is 9 2x4 rectangle on a grid and a line passes through the point (-4,0) and divides the area of the rectangles so that there is 36 units on each side of the line. What is the slope of this line?

On the x-axis with y=0....

at x=-13 put the first rectangle

at x = -11 put the second rectangle

at x = -9 put the third rectangle

at x = -7 put the fourth rectangle

at x=-5 put the fifth rectangle

at x=-3 put the 6th rectangle

at x = -1 put the 7th rectangle

at x=1 put the 8th rectangle

at x=3 put the 9th rectangle


put a vertical line at x=-4, with undefined slope

the area to the left of the line is (-4 - -13) * 4 = 9*4 = 36.

the area to the right of the line is (5 - -4) * 4 = 9 * 4 = 36
