If you're using a recent version of GIMP, you can select multiple layers in the Layers panel using Shift+Click for a range of layers or Ctrl+Click (Cmd+Click on Mac) for individual layers. Earlier versions of GIMP did not support multi-layer selection the same way Photoshop does, which is why many older tutorials mention workarounds. If the shortcuts aren't working, check your GIMP version, as multi-layer selection was added in later releases.
How to select more layers with GIMP?
