Use Hess’ Law and equations 1, 2, and 3 to find ΔH for the formation of methane from chloroform CHCl3(l) + 3HCl(g) → CH4(g) + 3Cl2(g)

(1) ½H2(g) + ½Cl2(g) → HCl(g) ΔH° = -92.3 kJ

(2) C(s) + 2H2(g) → CH4(g) ΔH° = -74.8 kJ

(3) C(s) + ½H2(g) + 3/2 Cl2(g) → CHCl3(l) ΔH° = -134.5 kJ
