Are graphics tablets worth it?

I've always felt curious about graphics tablets, but I've never even used one. Most people I know either give up or love them. I'm not a big illustrator myself, but I do the occasional doodle and would like to know if there are any other advantages for non-illustrators.

There really is not a cut-and-dried answer for you. You are absolutely correct that people tend to love them or abandon them. Some of the benefits of using a tablet include a more natural set of movements as the stylus is pencil shaped, as well as pressure sensitive. The tablets really shine when working with professional grade software like Adobe Illustrator.

If you are looking to have fun drawing and doodling I would suggest maybe going with ProCreate for the iPad. It is much easier to learn and has the power to go from casual doodling to elaborate illustrations in a very intuitive way.
