Solve for x , equation of a line

1.  Solve for m.    2mn-3=16

 

2. Gives the coordinates (2,2) and (4,-1) find the equation of the line.

1.  2mn - 3 = 16

     Add 3 to both sides:         2mn = 19

     Divide both sides by 2n: m = 19/(2n)

 

 

2.  The slope of the line is (change in y)/(change in x) 

           = (-1 - 2)/(4 - 2) = -3/2

 

    Equation of line :  y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is                                   the y-intercept.

 

So, we have y = (-3/2)x + b

 

    plug in either one  of the given points to find b:

 

    2 = (-3/2)(2) + b

    2 = -3 + b

    5 = b

 

Equation of line:  y = (-3/2)x + 5
