Hi Steve,
The moles are the coefficients in front of each of the element symbols of the equation. 1 is assumed to be the number if there is no number in front such as Mg(s). Just like in math where if it says x, you know there is only 1 x. There is 2 moles of HCl(aq) because it shows 2HCl(aq) in the equation and so on.
The answer to how many moles of Mg is 1.
The answer to how many moles of aluminum is quite difficult to answer since there is no Al in the given equation.
