Apart from infinity, there is no position on the axis where the electric field can be zero. Anywhere between the two charges, the electric fields are going to be in the same direction therefore they will add. If you go either side of the charges, the charge closest will always be the larger contributor than the other to the electric field since both charges are equal but opposite in sign.
