A box contains 3 red pencils, 4 green pencils, and 13 blue pencils. Consider the following game: without looking, pick a pencil from the box; if it is red, you win $12, and if it is green, you win $3. Suppose it costs only $2 to play this game. (3/20)12 + (4/20)3 = (36+12)/20 = 48/20 = 24/10 = 2.4

20 pencils 3 are red, 4 are green 13 are blue

you win 12 for red, 3 for green, 0 for blue

if it cost 2 to play then

2.4 - 2 = 0.4 = expected winning from playing one time = 40 cents
