무리수 is like 'too much' or 'beyond somebody's capacity
You can say
you're too much = 무리수를 뒀어; 너무 갔어
It can be used in so many different situations (its meaning can be diverse even though its internal meaning is the same)
Let's say 철수 ran too fast at the beginning of the marathon and he eventually did not make it
철수는 초반에 무리수를 둬서 완주에 성공하지 못했다.
