What does '여보세요' mean in the middle of a conversation?

I learned '여보세요' as a way of saying 'Hello?' at the start of a conversation on the phone. However, I have heard it said in the middle of conversations too - sometimes when it seemed like people were arguing. What does '여보세요' mean in that situation? Could it be considered rude?

"여보세요" does mean "hello" in the context of a call.

If you heard it in the middle of a conversation and it sounded like a question, it would be like saying: "Hello, are you there?"

However, if it sounded angry, then I believe it was used in a "hey, listen up" sort of way.

For example, if someone were to say something you thought was out of line, then you could use it, but it would be very confrontational and would be considered rude.

it's same as "hello" if you say say "hello" in middle of conversation, you dont meant to say Hi, but " hello- I'm here, Hello- seriously?? hello-- what are you talking about?? hello- get into the reality man " kind way.

I can be considered rude in some situation .
