- 3|2x-2|+6 = 18
- 3|2x-2|= 12 (subtract 6 from both sides....our initial goal is to isolate everything in the absolute value bars
- |2x-2| = 4 (divide both sides by 3)
- 2x-2 = 4 OR 2x-2 = -4 (once we are down to just that absolute value part, we have to consider both the positive and the negative solution, and solve each one)
- 2x-2=4 (first solution)
- 2x=6 (add 2 to both sides)
- x=3 (divide both sides by 2)
- 2x-2=-4 (second solution)
- 2x=-2 (add 2 to both sides)
- x=-1 (divide both sides by 2)
- Your solutions are x=3 AND x=-1
