Microsoft Access - 25 years of corporate world experience
Microsoft Access is the most successful desktop database software in the world! It is often used by small companies who previously stored their information in Excel, however, as their companies grew, they needed a database solution to store larger amounts of data with more advanced inquiry and reporting capabilities. Access is such a powerful tool, larger corporations also used Microsoft Access for specialty reporting, for its ability to connect to multiple data sources like Excel spreadsheets and SQL server. I have personally used Access to summarize data that is used for automated sales reports that are sent to senior executives around the world each morning. Sales budgeting is another example of a good use for Microsoft Access. I created Access databases to collect sales budget information from sales reps using an easy interface, consolidate the data for reporting to management, maintain a budget change history, and tutor users on how to use the sales budget database, how to harness the power of Access to summarize data, connect to other spreadsheets/databases, and export resulting data in various formats including Excel.
