When a ratio of numbers is added to produce a sum first define your variable. For example let 1x be the smallest value you are searching for. The value can be an angle, a length, etc. If the ratio is 1:2:3 and the sum is 30 then set the equation as 1x+2x+3x=30. Next solve the equation for x by combining like terms (6x=30 then divide both sides by 6 therefore x=5). In this word problem the smallest value 1x=5, the middle value 2x=10, and the largest value 3x=15. Check your answer 5+10+15=30. I hope this helps :-)
