JavaScript is the engine that gives a web application interactive functionality. Without out it all you have is HTML and CSS, which is the layout and design of the web page. A web application without JavaScript is just a static page. JavaScript libraries such as jQuery are feature-rich and makes tasks such as HTML document traversal and manipulation, Ajax and event handling much easier. I recommend these libraries to native JavaScript.
