I don't know. But, if I had to guess, I would say yes, polystyrene is intracellularly toxic ovet long term contact. The reason I say this is because normal everyday polystyrene is not pure; it contains unreacted monomer, styrene, which is lower in molecular weight, and more reactive to cells. The percent of monomer left in polystyrene is usually low, and for all practical purposes, does not interfere with commercial usage.
