Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors in your brain. Adenosine is the chemical that makes you sleepy. As a result caffeine SHOULD keep you from being fatigued, so I'm not sure in this case. However, coffee can give you a sugar crash or make you slightly dehydrated, both of which can cause you to feel drowsy. Additionally, because adenosine is blocked from its receptor, it accumulates, and so when the caffeine wears off you receive a nice dose of it.
