This is an interesting question, as it would probably be answered differently by practicing Jews and practicing Christians. Yet history is the same. I am Jewish, as was Jesus. Jesus was born into a Jewish family in Israel during a Jewish period where the Beit Din (the highest court) ruled the Jews. Jesus felt mistreated by this court and then decided that Judaism was insufficient in achieving spiritual completion. He broke off to create a sect of Judaism which focused on his beliefs. He was then killed by Roman legions for spreading what they considered to be heresy. So, technically, Judaism is Christianity without Jesus, yet the practices and histories of Jews and Christians have changed so much over the years, that Judaism and Christianity, while sibling religions, are not the same.
