Annette, treat the 10 raised to the power as a variable and the number multiplied by it by its coefficient.
Let x=10
This would make (6*10^6)-(3*10^4)=6x^6-3x^4=3x^4(2x^2-1). Substitute x=10 back into the equation.
(3*10^4)(2*10^2-1)=3*10^4(200-1)=3*10^4*(199)=3*10^4*(1.99*10^2)=3*1.99*10^4*10^2=5.97*10^6.
Hope this helps.
