PMI (Project Management Institute) has good documents and guidelines for this in great detail.
Phase 1 is developing the Requirements of what needs to be done, at lest at a high level.
Phase 2 involves building a detailed blueprint or design of whatever work is proposed.
Phase 3 is the actual build of software, hardware, buildings, bridges, or whatever your project deals with,
Phase 4 involves testing of software, hardware, machinery, or whatever you have built in Phase 3.
This includes your testing but ends with acceptance testing by the client. You will laso train the client so that they can test and understand the system or product.
Phase 5 is implementation of the product or project..
Phase 6 is Wrapup of documentation, turnover of the product or project to the client, and Closing the project.
I can provide a great deal of detail if necessary since I was a Software Project Manager and certified PMP..
