The sheer effort of studying Latin, whether you learn it or not, makes you smarter. Studying a highly structured language like Latin makes the mind more organized, increases attentiveness to detail, and promotes problem solving skills. Additionally, since Latin roots make up two thirds of English vocabulary, the effort yields also greater competence in one's own native language.
