When speaking in the first person (*je*), is there a difference when pronouncing a verb conjugated in the *futur* and *passé simple* (*-ai*) and in the *conditional* and *imparfait* (*-ais*)? For instance, is there a difference between those two: - *Je serai* - *Je serais*----------Y a-t-il une différence de prononciation entre les terminaisons *-ai* du futur et du passé simple et *-ais* du conditionnel et de l'imparfait ? In a French phonetics class, you would learn that the -ai ending is supposed to sound like the phoneme e (the sound of é- in été) and the -ais ending is supposed to like the phoneme ɛ (the sound of -ai- in faites). This is the way you would be taught to speak properly in a French class, but in reality, in fluent daily use, the endings end up sounding the same (like the sound of é- in été).

Et non ! Aucune différence phonétique entre "Je serai" et "Je serais".

Il s'agit d'ailleurs d'une des erreurs les plus fréquentes à l'écrit, on peut très vite faire des confusions entre le futur et le conditionnel !
