What is the difference between points and pixels?

A pixel is the smallest unit in raster images (like Photoshop). A 300x300 resolution means your image measures 300 pixels horizontally by 300 vertically.

A point is an element in vector images (Illustrator). It is a mathematical element that usually connects lines. Thus, a square in illustrator has 4 points and 4 lines. Also every time you click once with the pen tool on Illustrator you are creating a point.
