Sally weighed 26 lbs at 3 years old. at 6 years old she weighed 40 lbs. Assuming a linear relationship, how much will she weigh at age 8?

Answer 1

Sally gained 14 pounds, from age 3 to age 6, which means she gained 14/3 = 4 2/3 pounds each year.

 

If she is 40 pounds at 6 years old, then she will gain 2 * 4  2/3 pounds by the time she is 8 years old.

2 * 4  2/3 = 8  4/3 = 9  1/3 pounds

 

40 pounds + 9  1/3 pounds = 49  1/3 pounds.
